On three separate occasions I will be holding “Budget Forums” to talk directly with the residents about our budget challenges. I feel this is a chance to proactively discuss the budget and identify services most important to the residents of Stonington as we deal with these fiscally difficult times. I will discuss the budget process, budget challenges, and fiscal issues facing the Town. I am looking to solicit input from residents about priorities for town government and this vital information will help shape budget decisions this year and in the future. Forums will be held throughout the town and residents can attend any forum at any site. Full Story

New Legal Considerations For Mystic Chamber Businesses
- A New Law
The improper handling of personal information has been making state and national headlines for several years now. Many states, for example California, have already implemented strong legislation with respect to safeguarding personal information. As such, it is not surprising that this past June 10th the Connecticut Governor signed Public Act 08-167, which became effective October 1, 2008. The new law directly affects Mystic Chamber businesses and requires, among other things, that “any person in possession of personal information of another person shall safeguard the data, computer files and documents containing the information from misuse by third parties, and shall destroy, erase or make unreadable such data, computer files and documents prior to disposal”.

An important message from the American Red Cross
- The American Red Cross is asking for our support of local blood drives in August. The Connecticut American Red Cross supplies the 30 hospitals in Connecticut with blood. At this time Connecticut hospitals are only receiving 50% of their orders and some blood types have less then half of a day's supply. The blood supply in the summer becomes critically low, some reasons for this is the loss of high school and college drives as well as the busy summer schedule for Connecticut residents.
